IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN

April 07, 2017

A lot has gone on since my last update locally, nationally, and internationally. I am pleased to bring you an update on some of those events.

US Missile Attacks in Syria

The United States fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Syria on April 6th in response to what it believes was a chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that killed more than 100 people.

Holding Bashar al-Assad to account for his crimes against humanity is absolutely required and we must support our allies to achieve this end. My Conservative colleagues and I strongly support ‎the efforts of the United States to prevent Syria’s military from launching further chemical weapon attacks. The global community cannot sit idly by while deadly nerve toxins are unleashed on innocent civilians.

Contrary to the Prime Minister’s beliefs, the United Nations Security Council has proven itself woefully ineffectual when it comes to resolving the Syrian conflict. Canada’s foreign policy must always be based on the principles of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Local Colleges Bring in Big Name Speakers

The past couple weeks we have seen our local colleges hold tremendous events with big name speakers that I was honoured to attend.

On March 24, Olds College held their annual Gala. The highlight of the night was the announcement of a record $16 million donation from the Werklund Agricultural Institute to specialize in smart and sustainable agriculture and business solutions. The event also featured one of my favorite football players and CFL legend Mike “Pinball” Clemmons.

On March 28th I was pleased to hear from the Canada women’s national soccer team head coach John Herdman at the Red Deer College Kings and Queens annual scholarship breakfast.

The tremendous work by both institutions is something that brings pride to the entire community. Their reputations give them the ability to bring in nationally recognized guests to Central Alberta and give us a chance to show off what we have to offer.

Mobile Office Update

The next Mobile Office will be in Olds on Wednesday April 12th from 10-12 noon at the Olds Town Council chambers. Following that, on April 19th I will be in Elnora at the Library from 10-12 and in Delburne at the Municipal Office from 1-3 pm. Please feel free to bring any questions or comments to me and my staff at that time.
