IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN

April 25, 2016

Last week in Ottawa saw continued discussion over physician assisted dying legislation, the Supreme Court decision on Metis and non-status Indians and continued scrutiny over the impacts of the budget. This week I am looking forward to spending in the riding where I will be meeting with several town and city councils, the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce and many other constituents.

One of the highlights of the past weekend for me was being in Markerville for the celebration of three important community anniversaries. First, it was the 125th anniversary of the Icelandic Ladies Aid Vonin who have been instrumental in establishing the community of Markerville and growing it over many generations. It was also the 10th anniversary of the Fensala Hall renovation and the 30th season of the Markerville Creamery. I would like to thank the community for inviting me to be a part of all of these celebrations and thank all the volunteers who keep that community so vibrant. It was a great honour to have the Icelandic Ambassador come out for the evening as well.

Cost of Paris

Last week Prime Minister Trudeau went to New York to sign the Paris Climate Change Agreement and also last week the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) issued a report outlining the economic and environmental results of the agreement. According to the PBO, on average, Canadian incomes will decline between 1-3%.

These findings are in addition to the tax-hikes the Liberals introduced for Canadian families and small businesses. Fighting climate change is serious business and Canadians need to be prepared to have a frank discussion about who pays for it. The Conservative Party is the only party that can be trusted to grow the Canadian economy and protect the environment.

Mobile Office Update

The next mobile office will be in Carstairs on May 3rd, from 10-2 at Carstairs Family Chiropractic. I would like to thank Dr. Dean for hosting the office. If you are in the area, please feel free to stop in and bring any questions or concerns.

Sincerely your Member of Parliament, Earl Dreeshen
