IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN

May 02, 2016

I spent the last week in the riding meeting with constituents from several corners of Red Deer – Mountain View. Among some of the highlights were meetings with the councils of Red Deer, Innisfail, Mountain View County and representatives from the Cremona Council. It is important for me to hear of the priorities of our municipalities as well as individual constituents.

During the week I also had several meetings in my office with constituents, visited a couple of schools in the riding to speak with students and attended the 96th AGM for the IODE Alberta Chapter. The IODE is a tremendous group of leaders who work to improve the quality of life for children, youth and those in need.

This week we are back in Ottawa where the major topics will be the Budget Implementation Act and the Physician Assisted Dying legislation, Bill C-14. On Tuesday May 3rd, I will be rising in the House to provide my perspective on Bill C-14 and bring forward the thoughts and concerns that I have heard from constituents on the issue over the past few months.

Earl’s and Certified Humane

One of the big news items last week was the Earl’s Restaurant chain branding their beef as ‘certified humane’. As many have pointed out this marketing plan has the dangerous consequence of implying that all other beef, including that raised in Alberta, is produced inhumanely. This is simply not true. Alberta’s cattle farmers and the CFIA have standards that hold up to any jurisdiction in the world.

It is important to note that the local Earl’s restaurant is privately owned and operated by a family that has done incredible and selfless work in Central Alberta. Their hands have been tied by the franchise.

Many Albertans have made their feelings known over the past few days and their message is clear: we will continue to support our Alberta beef industry not only because of loyalty to our neighbors and the community – but because Alberta beef is the best beef in the world.

Mobile Office Update

The next mobile office will be in Carstairs on Wednesday May 4th, from 10-2 at Carstairs Family Chiropractic. I would like to thank Dr. Dean for hosting the office. If you are in the area, please feel free to stop in and bring any questions or concerns.

Sincerely your Member of Parliament, Earl Dreeshen
