IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN

I would like to start by congratulating the Memorial Cup host committee, the thousands of volunteers and the entire city of Red Deer for putting on an extremely successful Memorial Cup. The Rebels put forth a tremendous effort but in the end it just wasn’t meant to be.

Last week was a constituency week and I was able to meet with and speak to many people throughout the riding. The most pressing concerns continue to be jobs and the economy in Alberta, the size of the debt that the Liberals plan on burdening future generations with and the current legislation regarding Physician Assisted Dying. I am hearing those concerns and will continue to bring them to Ottawa on your behalf. 

Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline

After a thorough review the National Energy Board approved the Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline. The review concluded that, subject to 157 conditions, the pipeline was not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects, and that the construction of the pipeline was in Canada’s public Interest. 

This is fantastic news for thousands of out-of-work men and women in the oil patch. Unfortunately the Liberals have already confirmed that they will delay the final approval of this pipeline. 

Since the Liberals were elected, no new pipelines have been proposed because of the uncertainty that the Government has created through its economic policies and new pipeline regulations. Environment Minister McKenna’s new political, non-science based assessment of upstream GHG emissions has done nothing but create uncertainty in the oil and gas sector, driving away jobs and investment. In fact, Natural Resources Minister Carr has already admitted that the Kinder Morgan pipeline decision will be subject to Liberal political considerations.

The Kinder Morgan pipeline means the creation of high-quality, well-paying jobs for Canadians. It is time for Minister McKenna and Minister Carr to get out of the way and allow Kinder Morgan to begin construction. 

Mobile Office Update

The next mobile office will be in Cremona on June 1^st from 10-2 at 112 Railway Avenue (the FCSS Building) and then on June 15^th at the Penhold Library.
