IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN

June 24, 2016

On Friday June, 17th we wrapped up an interesting session in Ottawa. I will provide a quick recap of the spring session below.

It was a very eventful weekend in the riding. As the Vice Chair for the Industry, Science and Technology Committee, I hosted a roundtable with agriculture and business leaders in Red Deer on Friday along with my colleague Gerry Ritz, who is the Official Critic for International Trade and the former Agriculture Minister. It was a tremendous opportunity to discuss industry and trade issues with people from across Central Alberta. I was then able to take in the Innisfail Pro Rodeo where the Daines family once again put on an incredible show.

During the weekend I was also excited to take part in the Innisfail Parade and the Relay for Life. Saturday afternoon I joined the Elnora Legion, members of the Brereton family and many others from the community for the rededication of the Victoria Cross Marker in Elnora in honour of Victoria Cross recipient Alex Brereton . It was an honour to play a role in the ceremony and to deliver the Prayer of Dedication.

2016 Spring Session

As I mentioned above, we recently wrapped up the spring session in Ottawa. This was the first full opposition session for Conservatives in a decade. My priorities are based on what you, the constituents of Red Deer – Mountain View tell me your priorities are. Despite being in opposition to a majority government we were able to accomplish the following:

  • We held the government accountable for their betrayal of middle class Canadians with tax hikes on students, kid’s sports, charities and families;
  • We held the government accountable for their out-of-control spending that turned a Conservative balanced budget into a deficit three times the size of what they promised;
  • We held the government accountable for their dangerously naïve decision to pull our fighter jets out of the war against ISIS; and
  • We changed our tone but came out swinging against a Government that showed shocking arrogance in the House of Commons – especially when it comes to electoral reform – we will continue to be steadfast in our call for a referendum.

This summer I will be listening to the constituents of Red Deer – Mountain View about the issues which are important to you so I can represent those in Ottawa when we return in September.
