In Touch with MP Earl Dreeshen

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. While Parliament has risen, my colleagues and I have been hard at work in our constituencies to listen to the priorities of Canadians so we can effectively hold the government to account.

Since my last update, we wrapped up the conference in Tbilisi, Georgia with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. I was honoured to deliver three speeches on the topics of human trafficking, the energy sector and Canada’s response to the 2008 financial crisis. You can see the full text of my speeches on my website at earldreeshen.ca.

During the Calgary Stampede I was pleased to join dozens of Red Deer – Mountain View residents at the Stampede BBQ in honour the Right Honourable Stephen Harper. It was a tremendous event where I had the privilege of saying Grace and delivering the Toast to the Queen. As Prime Minister, Mr. Harper served this country with the upmost class and humility. His reputation on the world stage cannot be overstated. Whenever I speak to international leaders, they always impress upon me the respect that they had for Mr. Harper, his principled stances on global affairs and his steady hand on the domestic economy. I was truly honoured to take part in this BBQ and to have served in his caucus.

A couple of weeks ago Olds College hosted the Post-Secondary Leadership Conference which brought business and educational leaders from around the world to Central Alberta. I was very honoured to help kick off the conference. I know the week turned out to be very productive and I am proud that we have such tremendous post-secondary institution like Olds College and Red Deer College in Red Deer – Mountain View.

I was also very excited to take part in some local fairs and festivals. Of course, we celebrated the 125th Westerner Days last week. This is a truly remarkable accomplishment for our community and for the thousands of people who have volunteered or worked for Westerner Days over the past 125 years. Last week also saw Bowden Daze and the Carstairs Beef and Barley Days. There was great excitement for both of these celebrations and I would like to thank those communities for their dedication to our local heritage and community spirit.
