IN TOUCH WITH MP EARL DREESHEN
May 23, 2018
Following an eventful constituency week, I am back in Ottawa for the next 5 weeks as the spring session continues. Unfortunately, we continue to see the same damaging policies and arrogant attitude towards hard working Canadians from the Liberal Government. My colleagues and I in the Conservative Caucus will continue to be the voice of the tax payer and do our best to hold the government to account. Some of the more pressing issues are below.
Trans Mountain Expansion Project
The Liberals recently announced that they will provide taxpayer dollars as compensation to Kinder Morgan investors in order to ease any risks associated with the Prime Minister’s disastrous energy policies. He also announced that if Kinder Morgan did not accept the offer, the Liberals would be prepared to subsidize any new investors willing to take up the project.
Nothing the Finance Minister has said will ensure that the Trans Mountain Expansion actually gets built.
Since the announcement, Kinder Morgan’s CEO has stated that the taxpayer dollar offer doesn’t put the project back on the “front burner”. Kinder Morgan never asked for taxpayer money or a federal backstop. They simply want certainty, clarity, and a solution to the ongoing challenges and delays.
No amount of taxpayers’ money will be enough to make up for Prime Minister Trudeau’s failed policies.
Only Prime Minister Trudeau could take a project that Canadians support, creates thousands of jobs, and helps our economy, and put it on taxpayer-funded life support.
Illegal Border Crossers
Since Justin Trudeau tweeted #welcometoCanada last year, over 20,000 asylum seekers have illegally crossed into Canada. It is expected that upwards of 400 individuals per day will cross through unofficial entry points during the summer months.
As we head into the busy summer travel season, Canadians are now learning that they will face travel delays at Toronto Pearson International Airport and through official land border crossings in Ontario. According to media reports, this stems directly from Justin Trudeau’s failure to manage a planned immigration system.
Canadians expect our immigration system to be compassionate and fair.
What is not compassionate, and what is not fair, is when individuals are forced to live in homeless shelters, tent cities and makeshift refugee camps because the Prime Minister has compromised the integrity of our immigration system.
As a result of Justin Trudeau’s failure to manage a planned immigration system, social services across several provinces and cities are stretched to their breaking point.
